Vern’s Moth of the month of January:

Chalcosiin Day-Flyer Moth(Amesia sanguiflua, Chalcosiinae, Zygaenidae)

This beautiful moth may look like a butterfly with its beautiful bright colors and curled antennae but is indeed a moth. However unlike other moths the Chalcosiin comes out during the day hours just like its butterfly counterparts to attract mates. They are a shy moth so you have to be stealthy when approaching or they will take off before you have a chance to identify them. However their brightly colored markings can be viewed more in flight on their hind wings which makes for easier identification.
